Design Our philosophy with The Bass Blaster was to recreate the feel of car audio from our youth. The blue surround is not just our branding color, it is an homage to woofers of the 1990s that used brightly colored surrounds as a signature look. The balance of the blue to the grey/silver basket and cone harkens back to the early 2000s when some of our favorite woofer models sported a distinct style. The aluminum dust cap gives depth and texture to the woofer as a whole and adds rigid reinforcement to the cone body. The genesis of the design was the motor itself, the large vent for the four-inch coil caught our eye in car audio shops in the 1990s. Jacob Fuller captured that look while tapering the vent and adding a pole cap to not compromise modern cooling techniques for the best performance-to-aesthetics ratio possible. Sundown Audio Sundown Audio U-Series v.1 10" Subwoofer
The Sundown U Series is our premier “standard suspension” woofer series. It is the most direct replacement for the world famous Z v.3 woofer line which we produced from 2011 to 2016 before launching the “new platform” Z v.4 series. Due to numerous advancements in our design process the U Series is able to deliver performance on-par with the Z v.3 series but at a much lower cost. We start with a double-stacked / 8.66” wide Y35 grade ferrite magnet system coupled to a one-piece, bumped T-Yoke and a 0.6” thick top-plate. Just as with the Z v.3 before it and our other high-end subwoofers we also add a very thick (5mm thickness) aluminum shorting ring inside the magnets to reduce static inductance and level out inductance over stroke. The U series motor also features a 0.6” long pole-extension to keep the coil under control at high levels of excursion. The voice coil is a 2.36” long / 3” diameter 4-layer aluminum winding / aluminum former unit – which is the same coil we use in our X v.2 series and, thus, the U series has the same 1500-watt RMS ratings. The coil temperature is kept in check by a heavily smoothed / high-velocity pole-vent and a series of ten direct air-gap vents in the back plate. The U series also features newly tooled cast aluminum vent rings in between the frame and top plate to effectively exchange air at a high velocity over the voice coil beneath the spider landing. The U series features an all-new cast aluminum frame series to the Sundown line which allows for taller cones than the older frames used on the Z v.3 series. The taller cones provide enhanced coil stability and increased mechanical excursion capability. We also tooled matching cast-aluminum surround clamps for the U series to ensure durability in the most demanding situations. The surrounds and cone bodies have been fully custom tooled especially for the U series and are stronger / support more excursion than the Z v.3 series cones and surrounds. The new cone bodies also feature an indentation for the same wide-flange, ultra-strong dust caps as our new platform subwoofers. If you are looking for a woofer that sounds similar to the SA series but handles significantly more power… the U series is exactly what you need. 2000 Watts RMS / 4000 Watts Peak Available in Dual 1 and Dual 2 Ohm Configurations Mega Roll Surround and Frame Etched All Black Backplate Quad Stack Magnet Structure The Sundown M-Series is an all-new "entry-level" subwoofer in our Mega series - all Mega series subwoofers (10,12,15,18) feature our custom tooled and patented frames (US Patent Numbers D691596, D691597, D691598, and D741841) and our Mega-Roll surround.When we say "entry-level" this is only by comparison to its big brothers in our own Mega line - X,Z,NS series and higher. The M series was built for intense bass with stellar low-frequency performance at industry-leading levels of low-distortion. It does this while looking amazing - with a new laser-etched back-plate design and special M-series magnet boot design. For the M-series we mate out Mega series frames to a quad stacked 200mm (7.87”) diameter motor structure with a total magnet stack height of 88mm (3.46”) featuring a hyper-extended pole and extreme clearances (allowing 59.5mm to mechanical bottom effectively making it bottomless - this is 4.68" peak-to-peak). At Sundown we always do things to the extreme so even our "entry" level M-series features a full 20mm thick top-plate to finish the efficient magnetic circuit. We did all of this while still optimizing the cost to offer the absolute best-value to our customers. This motor drives a 3" diameter 4-Layer Round Wire Aluminum Voice Coil wound on a thick aluminum former to incredible levels of excursion. The new coil in the M-series was developed for both the M and X v.4 series and features a very special winding (invented by Sundown for the X-8 series originally) that allows the best winding packing density in the gap for both the D1 and D2 options. This coil is so massive that it allows even our M-series to achieve a full 35mm one-way linear excursion. We are truly setting a new industry standard with the M-series. Based on Sundown's years of experience we've included our highly efficient high-stroke coil ventilation system developed for the X and Z series originally. The M-series features a high-velocity pole vent, a heavily vented magnetic gap through the back-plate, and our proprietary high-velocity cast-aluminum frame-base venting system. The M-series was designed from the ground-up to become the new standard in the low-frequency / small, ported box subwoofer category in this price range. The Z v.6 is the second step up in Sundown's "ultra-high excursion" subwoofer lineup after the X v.3 series and replaces the world-famous Z v.5 series. All models (10,12,15,18) feature our custom tooled and patented frames (US Patent Numbers D691596, D691597, D691598, and D741841). Sundown mates these new platform frames to a quad stacked 240mm (9.45”) diameter motor structure with a total magnet stack height of 100mm (3.94”) featuring a hyper-extended pole and extreme clearances (allowing over 4" p-p travel before mechanical bottom effectively making it bottomless). Compared to the X v.3 motor both the top & back plates are thicker allowing for even more magnetic strength and excursion potential. For the Z v.6 the top plate is another 5mm thicker than even the outgoing Z v.5 series! This motor drives a 3" diameter 8-Layer Flat Wire Aluminum Voice Coil wound on a thick aluminum former to incredible levels of excursion. The Z v.6 now uses the same voice coil as the NS v.5 series. The Z v.5 utilized a 4-layer voice coil – the change to an 8-layer was to answer our customers desire for higher motor force (more output) and it does just that! Based on Sundown's years of experience with the Z v.4 and Z v.5 series we've also improved the voice coil ventilation to be even more effective. The Z v.6 features a high-velocity pole vent, a heavily vented magnetic gap, and (all new for the v.6) machined channels in four places around the pole piece itself. The Z v.6 series was designed from the ground-up to become the new standard in the low-frequency / small ported box subwoofer category in this price range. They will work in the same small enclosures that are commonly used for for Sundown Audio's subwoofers, although, they can be used with enclosures up to about 50% larger than those if you desire even more low-end extension. We stuck with the 2.75” coil diameter and added another 5mm of length for additional linear x-max (22mm now). We are able to perfectly balance the mass, motor force, and suspension stiffness for the intended power level. Compared to the v.2 the v.3 features taller cones and wider spiders to enhanced linearity and coil stability to the next level. We also utilized full 3D FEA to further optimize the spider packs for this generation. The motor also features a large magnet shorting ring (faraday ring) & pole cap faraday ring to reduce distortion and deliver smoother response across the entire acoustic spectrum. With the v.3 upgrade we integrated a completely "locked-in" faraday ring that is physically held in place by the T-Yoke. The motor & coil setup is mated to an extremely robust multi-layer spider with fully tied-on & doubled-up “XL” tinsel leads. A competition-grade paper cone, strong foam surround, and custom-tooled aluminum frame (same frame as the bigger brother U v.2 series) are used to complete this masterpiece. On top of the ~22mm of one-way linear excursion we have an x-mech limit of 41mm one-way before coil bottom making it nearly "bottomless." The new motor was designed as a "little brother" to the U v.2 series so you will also note the updated venting system with a solid pole piece from the back and channeled pole on the inside. The I Series subwoofer line is the “gateway” level subwoofer. Gateway, as it is affordable enough for anyone to have the opportunity to run a premium brand subwoofer, as well as the I Series opens the gates to the world of Incriminator. As a number of people can attest to, once they have experienced the IA quality and performance, there is no looking back. The I Series from IA is the “gateway drug” to cleaner and more powerful bass compared to the big name brands. The I Series is all business when it comes to performance and functionality, no effort was wasted on flashy looks to trick the people who are new to the high performance car audio game. This means when others subs are failing from flimsy cones or weak motors, the I-series will keep on performing at a high level for a long time to come. New updates include a larger and more powerful double magnet motor structure that grew by ½” overall. With that larger motor also comes a larger voice coil, which is now an Aluminum 4 layer coil that is 2.5” in diameter. These bump the power rating up to a very respectable 500 watts rms. The I Series now flaunts larger woven leads and dual black progressive spiders for better current flow and greater durability. To help handle the extra power and abuse, the I Series has been upgraded with improved cooling through new side venting. Available in both Dual 2 ohm and Dual 4 ohm voice coils for flexibility in different installs, as well as 10” & 12” cone sizes.
